Brick River Cider Co, St Louis’ first dedicated cider works, is excited to announce Evan Hiatt has joined our team as Cider Master. Evan brings over a decade of St Louis area craft beverage experience.
Evan was the founding Brew Master and later President of Six Row Brewing Co from 2008 to 2015. Prior to founding Six Row Evan worked in wine making with Les Bourgeois Vineyards of Recheport and River Ridge Winery of Commerce, MO and was most recently Brewmaster at PPPo’s Brewco.
“Evan’s wine making experience in both wine and beer is really unique” say founder Russ John. “Many people compare cider to beer, because of the similarities in marketing, but it really is a wine making process. Evan brings a great blend of both traditions that is very valuable.” continues Russ.
“I’m really excited about the opportunity to bring really good, locally produced classic ciders to St Louis, and also to push the envelope a bit. The craft cider business is where the craft beer business was 20 years ago; innovation in craft cider is just exploding all around us. We are still in the early stages,” says Hiatt.
Brick River Cider Co was named in honor of the river of bricks that flowed from St Louis City, connecting us to the bounty of the Midwestern region. Brick River supports local agriculture and crafts our cider only from fresh pressed Midwestern apples, never concentrate. Brick River Cider Co was founded by central west end resident Russ John, the owner/operator of his family’s homestead farm and orchards, which were established by his great grandfather Ted in 1869. Russ builds on four generations of family wine and cider making with the launch of Brick River Cider Co to the public in late October, 2017.
